Holly Holdsworth, writer director

Biography

I (she/her) am a writer & director whose work focuses on worlds where the strange and the ordinary meld, where trauma comes to the surface and where characters fight against themselves. It is informed by my experiences as a bisexual woman and from growing up in a working class neighbourhood in the East Midlands UK.

I make work that challenges audiences to interrogate oppressive forces from both within and without. I create characters who make positive change for their communities with courageous, co-operative action. I examine perspectives from people who live on the line of conventional categories: working/middle class, spiritual/secular, heterosexual/gay, north/south.

After three years of working in art departments on productions by BBC, ITV, Kudos, Sky and Warp, I took an MFA in Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. My scripts have placed in competitions by Slamdance Film Festival, WeScreenplay and Filmmatic. My short film Fathom is currently in post-production.
